Pimp my Webapp: Turning Web 1.0 into Web 2.0, Part 1

Everyone wants the Web 2.0. But how to get there, especially if you have a dowdy old Web 1.0 application? Will I have to spend the annual GDP of a smallish Central American nation on the rewrite? There are three general approaches that evolved over the last year:

Tibco GI/Craigs List Bashup

Over at Ajaxian you can read about a pretty cool remix of Craig's List, somewhat similar to what I've been working on with GWT. I've termed this a "bashup," rather than a "mashup," because it kind of mashes things up against one or more of the participants wills.

TIBCO GI Mashup Contest

Just thought I'd pass along that TIBCO is holding a mashup contest. There are a few simple rules: 1. You've got to create it as a project in the latest version of GI, natch, though you can include other Ajax libraries. 2. You've got to use PageBus, their open source Ajax message bus. Good for mashups, dontcha know. 3. You've got to subscribe stock or geotagging messages from TIBCO. Hmmm. So only geotagging and stock apps are cool?

Tibco GI 3.4 - New Home Page and SVN Repository

by 1 other
I just checked out Tibco GI from the new SVN repository (see the new GI home page). It comes to 51MB with 242 Javascript files with roughly 84000 lines of Javascript code and comments. That makes it the most substantial client-side Ajax framework by a long shot. Of course sheer numbers are not a measure of quality, but they are an indication of the significant effort that must have gone into it's development.
